Abstract

The year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate in August 2024 was 2.12 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.06. The highest inflation by province was in Papua Pegunungan Province at 5.05 percent, with a CPI of 110.78. The lowest was in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province at 1.02 percent, with a CPI of 103.78. The highest inflation by regency/municipality was seen in Minahasa Selatan Regency at 7.75 percent with a CPI of 108.61, while the lowest was seen in Bangka Barat Regency at 0.11 percent with a CPI of 101.11. On the other hand, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency had a deflation of 0.88 percent with a CPI of 103.99.
Inflation occurred as the prices went up, as indicated by the increase in most expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 3.39 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 1.19 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 0.57 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 1.05 percent; Health Group of 1.72 percent; Transport Group of 1.42 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group of 1.52 percent; Education Group of 1.83 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group of 2.24 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group of 6.04 percent. Meanwhile, the Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group recorded a deflation of 0.16 percent.
The month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation rate in August 2024 was 0.03 percent, and the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation rate in August 2024 was 0.87 percent.
For the Core Component, the August 2024 y-on-y inflation rate was 2.02 percent, the m-to-m inflation rate was 0.20 percent, and the y-to-d inflation rate was 1.52 percent.
